The second disc, under Slater’s leadership, presents the same trio plus a few more players, including Carl Dewhurst on guitar.  Whether deliberately or not, this one evokes Miles Davis’ In a Silent Way, and it seems almost certain that Davis would have availed himself of the computer-governed electronics that augment this music.
My preference is for the first disc, but once again the playing is so fine, the sounds so luminous, and the extensions to Davis’ concept so engaging, that I have no hesitation in recommending a double purchase here.
It is very hard to think of an Australian production, in any genre, more beautifully played and recorded than these two.
